‘Tis the Season

Here we are—the joyous holiday season of 2019. So many of us are celebrating with family and friends—people who we see often and those relatives and friends we see only a few times of the year. It’s wonderful to be able to make new holiday memories with them.

It’s an opportunity to share goodwill with people we don’t know too. Here are some ideas to do just that.

When we’re driving it would be nice to be courteous to one another—particularly when driving at night. Don’t use your high beams when you can see the tail lights of the car in front of you. They reflect in that driver’s mirrors and blinds them. In the same vein, remember to turn off your high beams when you see another car approaching you on the road. Guaranteed you’re blinding them if you don’t. Especially now when headlights are halogen or LED, they are so much brighter than the conventional lights on older cars.

Make a positive human connection. Hold the door for the person following you into a store. Let someone who has fewer items than you ahead of you in the grocery store checkout line. Smile.

Remember those who need extra help. Give to your local food bank. There are many children who don’t get the nutrition they need. Children should never go hungry especially at this time of year.

Donate to other worthy charities if you have the ability to share a little surplus income.

Let’s be kind to each other.

Here are some links to the charities I contribute to: Feed More, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Adopt a Native Elder, The Read Center, and the ASPCA.

This is a link to Charity Navigator. They provide reviews for charities to help you decide if a charity is doing what it should.

May your holiday season be all you want it to be.

Happy Writing!
